Even though I love essential oils, my household is largely fragrance free. This is due to my husband being extremely sensitive to synthetic fragrances.
We use fragrance free laundry detergent and dryer sheets. We burn candles but not the smelly kind that will fragrance an entire room even when its unlit. I only wear perfume occasionally and in very small quantities.
But I still personally love scents, especially when it comes to freshly laundered clothes, towels etc.
So I’ve been sneaking essential oils into the laundry process. The way I do it produces a very mild, barely there scent that I love… and that doesn’t bother hubby.
Now, before I share my easy peasy process, I want to state that I’m not a doctor or medical professional. If you think you may have sensitivities to fragrances or essential oils, please consult your doctor prior to using essential oils for laundry.
If you feel confident that you can proceed, here’s how I use essential oils in my laundry.

How I use essential oils for laundry
1. I toss all my dirty laundry into the washing machine.
2. I add a few drops (2 or 3) of essential oil into the detergent tray. My favorite essential oils for laundry are tea tree and sweet orange.
3. I pour my unscented laundry detergent on top of the essential oil, turning the detergent into a carrier for the oil.
4. I start my laundry machine as usual. When the wash is done, there will be a faint but lovely scent from the essential oil on the wet laundry.
If you dry your laundry in a dryer like I do, you may find that the scent diminishes a bit. If you don’t want that to happen, try placing a drop or two of essential oil on a damp washcloth and include it with the damp clothes in the dryer.
And that’s it! I told you it was easy peasy. :)
